Department Overview
McDonald's Global Supply Chain Sustainable Food Sourcing (SFS) team aims to develop and implement strategies for a sustainable and resilient food supply chain as part of the Global Strategic Sourcing Food (GSSF) team within the Company’s Global Supply Chain. We do this through collaboration with our Suppliers and key McDonald’s teams including commercial, quality, digital and strategy teams in GSC, our Global Impact function and McDonald’s Markets. The SFS team is accountable for leading food sustainability policies, specifications, clear plans and supplier engagement to drive action across our System, the industry and with global stakeholders for a sustainable food system today and in the future to support our business and values. High-Level Job Summary
This position will lead and strategize food supply chain sourcing transformation initiatives to achieve McDonald's Climate Target, Commitment on Forests & Natural Ecosystems and other climate and nature priorities. With the Senior Director, Global Sustainable Food Sourcing Strategy, the leader will ensure progress to critical milestones and alignment across sustainability strategies to meet 2030 public commitments and deliver value for our business and customers.
Working with the Global Sustainable Food Sourcing Strategy Senior Director, this position will:
- Lead team strategies and implementation for McDonald's food supply chain climate mitigation Scope 3 Forest, Land & Agriculture (FLAG) and industrial (Non-FLAG) emissions to achieve the Company's Climate Target.
- Lead sustainable food sourcing programs to eliminate deforestation and conversion from global supply chains to achieve the Company's Commitment on Forests & Natural Ecosystems.
- Align across workstreams and business priorities including assured supply, farm-level resiliency, forests and nature, human rights to support integrated sustainable sourcing and optimized supplier outcomes.
- Collaborate with Supply Chain teams, Global Impact, Markets and Suppliers to drive action and demonstrate business case for resilience and growth.
Key responsibilities:
Management and Collaboration:
- Manage one direct report (Senior Manager, Climate Sourcing Transformation) and lead coordination of SFS team subject matter expert workstreams for aligned strategy and effective collaboration.
- Ensure strong collaboration with GSSF Category teams, Global Impact Climate and Nature teams and build relationships across suppliers, functions, markets, categories to support transformation.
Leadership and Communication:
- Articulate business case and investment rationale for supply chain climate and nature initiatives as part of strategic sourcing strategy and supply chain resilience.
- Ensure alignment and integrated thinking with SFS team and across workstreams including assured supply, farm-level resiliency, climate adaptation, and human rights.
- Partner with Global Impact on strategy insights, external landscape expectations and identify partnerships, advocacy and communications needed. Partner with Global Finance, Category Sourcing teams and suppliers to manage investment and commercial impact.
- Present executive communications for leadership updates and strategic position papers on key business questions.
Strategy and Execution:
- Direct and enhance food supply chain forest and nature strategies with Manager, Forests, Nature, & Farm Level Human Rights and key partners in Category Sourcing teams, Global Impact and suppliers.
- Direct and enhance food supply chain climate strategy and accelerated planning for McDonald's Climate Target with Senior Manager, Climate Transformation, and key partners.
- Engage suppliers in alignment with SFS Supplier Engagement Platform, Director of SFS Enablement, GSSF and Global Impact teams.
- Anticipate risks in deploying plans, integrate market insights and function-specific risk forecasting into strategy. Innovate and evolve climate and nature sourcing strategies to meet business objectives.
Qualifications
Experience and Knowledge
- 15+ years of post-college experience working in matrixed and decentralized organizations, leading sustainability and/or change management initiatives.
- Proven ability to lead people, cross-functional teams and complex projects requiring executive leadership communications
- Strong understanding of climate change mitigation, deforestation, land conversion and ecosystem services and natural resource management, especially related to key categories such as beef, chicken, soy, coffee, potato.
- Strong financial acumen, understanding of commercial sourcing, financial models for franchised enterprise, global supply chains and suppliers.
- Proven ability to successfully navigate McDonald’s System and business functions, market/segment structures, priorities and efforts, category-specific value chain.
- Advanced degree in sustainability, environmental management, ecology, agriculture, or a related discipline preferred.

Salary Range
The expected salary range for this role is $168,350.00 - $218,860.00 per year
