Department Overview
The Electrical Project Engineer within U.S. Restaurant Design will work on high-impact projects and help set design standards that support more than 13,000 restaurants across the United States. This includes developing and maintaining design documentation, enabling new technologies, and supporting sustainability initiatives. This role follows a hybrid work schedule based out of our Global Headquarters in Chicago’s West Loop.
Duties
- Develop electrical engineering content for building design and construction documents. Maintain McDonald’s prototypical drawings, including electrical plans and building-systems integration.
- Collaborate with internal teams and external partners, including U.S. Restaurant Design disciplines, Supply Chain, Global Design, Technology, Operations, and design/construction service providers.
- Lead implementation of new design initiatives and standards in the U.S. market, including renewable energy, emerging technologies, and sustainability programs.
- Act as the Electrical Engineer subject-matter expert, partnering with field construction teams, Owner/Operators, contractors, and suppliers to address questions and ensure consistent execution.
- Clearly communicate engineering requirements to a diverse group of stakeholders with varying levels of electrical engineering understanding.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering.
- E.I.T. certification and the ability to become a licensed professional engineer (P.E.) within 3 years of hire.
- 2–6 years of experience in electrical design engineering, including construction documents and field implementation support; building-systems experience preferred.
- Strong working knowledge of NEC, IECC, IBC/IEBC, and other applicable electrical codes and standards.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD and Bluebeam is preferred; experience in the quick-service restaurant (QSR) or fast-food industry is a plus.

Salary Range
The expected salary range for this role is $104,482.00 - $130,602.00 per year
