Department Overview
The U.S. Strategic Franchising department’s primary purpose is to align the McDonald’s system to have right franchisees in the right restaurants in order to maximize both company and owner/operator profitability, customer satisfaction and sales. This occurs through three primary functions: executing the new term franchise process, selecting & developing new franchisees and executing strategic franchising plans. The department works closely with all disciplines across the company as well as with Senior Leadership acting as a trusted advisor, valued partner and strategic thinker for key franchising decisions.
Strategy
- Partners with Field Office leadership in two Field Offices to conceptualize and execute its multi-year franchising strategy. Facilitates refreshing and evolving the strategy throughout the year and year-over-year.
- Plans and facilitates biannual franchising discussions with US National Field President. Plans and facilitates a biannual Franchise Planning meeting with each Field Office. Plans and facilitates quarterly Franchise Execution meetings with each Field Office. Actively participates in or facilitates weekly or bi-weekly franchising discussions with FO leadership teams on urgent topics.
- Shepherds Sales Between Operators (SBOs) through agreed-upon processes and channels as per field office strategy
- Provides franchising expertise and analysis to the US Franchising Strategy Vice President and Senior Director to guide decisions having franchising implications
- Calibrates and aligns with Standards, Policy and Reporting (SPR) Director, FFMs and legal partners to ensure decisions, actions and outcomes are consistent across the US business
- Supports Field Offices in monitoring the continued ability of Owner/Operators to meet the National Franchising Standards
- Supports Field Offices in the new restaurant award process – tying BU strategy to new site execution
Duties
Consulting, Leveraging and Influencing Resources
- Provides subject matter expertise, education and guidance regarding the application and administration of Franchising principles, policies, and guidelines (PPGs) including NRBES, Franchise Navigator, and National Franchising Standards
- Supports cross-functional teams in addressing and providing solutions to US Business franchising challenges
- Provides franchising orientations and training as needed to key internal partners
- Consults to Field Office leadership on franchising opportunities and decisions
- Provides both internal and external support for the Sale Between Operator process, including gathering necessary approvals and keeping the process moving when needed
- Supports with information required for pre-Sale (e.g. “seller’s packages”) Between Operator and post-Sale Between Operator follow-up
- Provides ongoing communication with the franchise placement team on Field Office needs
- Participates in and supporting the Standards, Policy, and Reporting (SPR) team in executing new term decisions
Administration/Coordination
- Initiates the Sale Between Operator process (reviews contract for relevant details and enters it into to the internal tracker)
- Partners with Business Review COE in Field Office execution and alignment of Business Reviews
- Provides continuous coaching and follow-up to Franchise Business Partners in effective documentation (NRBES, New Term conditions, etc.)
- Partners with each of the candidate verticals in identifying (panel Interviews), training (host identification/ongoing coaching and assessment), and placing (providing solutions) new franchisees
- Supports Owner/Operators with changes in ownership structure, succession planning, purchase and sale process, and any other field inquiries concerning franchising
- Other responsibilities as assigned
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree preferred
- Field experience at a manager level preferred
- Understanding of McDonald’s or other franchised restaurant organizations’ operations and franchising policies
- Proven leadership and ability to collaborate, influence and work with multi-disciplined teams
- High level of strategic focus/perspective and tactical ability to deliver results
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to articulate and present issues and solutions
- High level of knowledge of MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, MS Word, and MS Teams.
- Strong interpersonal, organizational, and presentation skills
- Some travel required

Salary Range
The expected salary range for this role is $115,872.00 - $144,840.00 per year
