Department Overview

The Commercial Product & Platform team develops global technology products and platforms that delight our customers and enable place order to restaurants reliably and effectively.

The Technical Lead will play a pivotal role in defining and implementing technical strategies, architectural solutions, and ensuring the successful deployment and market adoption of Ordering features and enhancements across McDonald's customer-facing channel's. The Tech Lead will focus on the Basket & Checkout capabilities within the Ordering domain. The Basket & Checkout team focuses on customer journeys for the shopping bag, including totalization logic and differences in taxes & fees by market, basket validation, rules, and promotions. This includes both front-end experiences and backend services and components. The Tech Lead will work with the Director – Tech Lead for Ordering.

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced technology leader to help shape the transformation of the Ordering experience and define the technology direction of the Basket & Checkout capabilities.

Accountabilities & Responsibilities

  • Establish a technical vision and strategy for our products, with a primary focus on McDonald's Ordering capabilities across customer-facing channels. Develop architectural solutions that align with business goals for the Basket & Checkout experience. Evaluate, identify and lead the development of software solutions.
  • Drive the technical direction for Ordering capabilities, lead the development team, and collaborate on partner selection to ensure alignment with our technical vision.
  • Collaborate with your product counterpart to break down large, complex solutions into smaller work that offers functionality to users. Work with product counterpart to sequence product and sprint backlog.
  • Contribute to transformation efforts aimed at modernizing McDonald's Ordering experience, reducing complexity, and accelerating deployment timelines.
  • Partner with our design, product, architecture, UX research, analytics/telemetry and engineering teams to aid the solution, development, and delivery processes.
  • Lead the SDEs in your squads as the technical expert, ensuring technical excellence and alignment with standards. Provide leadership to team members and peers, collaborate with others, and hold yourself and the team accountable for results.
  • Ensure test coverage across all Basket & Checkout features and services. Partner with our DevOps and other teams to increase automation test coverage in our test suites. Work closely with engineering teams to highlight the importance of development principles centered around testing.
  • Partner with product managers and designers in a product squad to lead the entire lifecycle of the ideation, backlog refinement and development processes.
  • Ensure that code development aligns with architectural, quality, and security standards, maintaining documentation standards for all software shipped.
  • Be accountable for the deployment of new features, including quality assurance, production deployment, and defect remediation.
  • Mentorship: Act as a mentor to junior Technical Leads, sharing your expertise and fostering their growth.
  • Assist and be the authority on features and capabilities to development partners and other product teams.
  • Develop and implement optimization experiments to validate and increase feature adoption.
  • Collaborate across functions, including market partners, marketing, operations, and program management, to name a few, to ensure timely product delivery.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or Engineering or equivalent experience.
  • 5 plus years of technology experience, with a strong background in software engineering and architectural design.
  • 3 plus years of Agile Product Management experience, preferably leading agile development teams.
  • Willingness and ability to live the McDonald’s values every day: Serve, Inclusion, Integrity, Community, and Family.
  • Demonstrating a solid understanding of mobile technology and experience with UI development for mobile applications.
  • Expertise in software development, Agile methodologies, and architectural design.
  • Excellent communication skills for explaining technical decisions to non-technical collaborators.
  • Broad understanding of coding and programming languages
  • Experience in retail, restaurant and/or digital technology, especially mobile and web applications.
  • Experience leading multi-functional teams and managing indirect reports.
  • Expertise in project and product planning, including prioritization and roadmap creation.
  • Passion for improving customer experience and operational efficiency through innovative technology solutions.

Preferred Qualification

  • Software development and/or solution architecture experience
  • Familiarity with Java, C++, C#, Swift and/or Kotlin.
  • Familiarity with Mobile Development (iOS and Android)

Salary Range

The expected salary range for this role is $129,800.00 - $165,490.00 per year
