Department Overview

At McDonald's, we are looking for an ambitious Sr Cybersecurity Architect to become a vital member of our elite team in Chicago, IL, USA. This role represents an outstanding opportunity to drive cybersecurity improvements at a premier global restaurant company. You will be essential in framing, delivering, and sustaining cybersecurity expectations and the full architecture throughout all phases of the services, products, and platforms lifecycle. Your contributions will maintain the integrity, transparency, regulatory conformance, and durability of our systems, facilitating efficient operation of our international projects.

As a Sr Cybersecurity Architect, you will work hand-in-hand with our Restaurant Technology groups. You will bring your knowledge and organizational skills to support colleagues and help guide strategic decisions. You will join the Global Cyber Security function, especially the Cyber Security Architecture and Engineering team. You will report to the Senior Manager of Cyber Security Solution Architecture.

Accountabilities & Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement advanced cybersecurity strategies strictly aligned with industry guidelines and company goals.
  • Conduct comprehensive architecture reviews to identify security gaps and proactively address them.
  • Collaborate with senior business leaders to integrate security seamlessly into projects and processes, protecting information systems.
  • Contribute to planning for the cybersecurity department, managing risks and improving defense against evolving threats.
  • Advocate for secure-by-design and secure-by-default principles and influence adoption across teams.
  • Approve and ensure the production of architecture artifacts, security models, and build patterns.
  • Improve visibility of business risks by conducting threat modeling, mapping controls, and performing risk assessments.
  • Stay current on new technologies, evolving threats, and industry trends to proactively build and strengthen the security strategy.
  • Conduct architecture assessments and ensure compliance with frameworks like NIST CSF, ISO 27001, and PCI DSS.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, or a related field with equivalent experience accepted.
  • 6+ years in information security, with at least 2 years in an architecture role or equivalent experience.
  • Certifications such as CISSP, CISM, SABSA, TOGAF (preferred), or equivalent.
  • Proven experience crafting security for cloud, hybrid, and on-prem environments.
  • Experience across various areas such as identity and access management, data protection, encryption, cloud security (AWS, Azure, GCP), Dev/Sec/Ops, application security, platform security, endpoint security, IoT security, OT security, network security, or zero-trust architectures.
  • Knowledge of security frameworks (NIST, ISO 27001) and the ability to translate frameworks into enforceable enterprise standards and measurable outcomes.
  • Demonstrated results reducing risk and security technical debt while accelerating delivery.
  • Strong communication and influence skills; ability to simplify complexity for less technical leaders, guide distributed teams and resolve conflict.
  • Excellent written communication skills.
  • Strong analytical skills to critically evaluate information gathered from multiple sources; diligent, with excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to conduct research into issues, solutions, products and evaluate new technologies, translating them into roadmaps and leadership presentation materials.
  • Ability to understand business challenges, drive process improvements and translate into solutions.
  • Comfortable with ambiguity and ability to navigate uncertainty.
  • Naturally elevates others and builds a culture of belonging through engaging high-performing teams.

Salary Range

The expected salary range for this role is $167,366.00 - $209,207.00 per year
