The Senior Manager, Tech Lead – McDelivery Marketplace will play a critical role in shaping technical strategy and architectural direction, while leading the development and deployment of key features and enhancements. This role is focused on advancing Marketplace capabilities within the McDelivery domain. Marketplace serves as the platform that enables integration with third-party ordering partners worldwide, facilitating order acceptance and routing to restaurants for third-party fulfillment.

Reporting to the Director – Tech Lead (McDelivery), the Tech Lead will drive modernization of legacy architecture and promote standardization through white-label APIs. These APIs will streamline backend integrations across multiple third-party ordering partners, simplifying adaptation of the McDonald’s menu and enhancing the third-party ordering experience.

This is an exciting opportunity for a seasoned technology leader to help transform the Marketplace experience and define the future technology direction of a globally impactful platform.

Duties

  • Responsible for the technical vision and strategy for McDelivery Marketplace.
  • Design and deliver end-to-end solutions using a microservices architecture that ensures modularity, scalability, and ease of maintenance.
  • Advocate for event-driven architecture patterns with technologies such as Kafka or similar messaging platforms to enable real-time data processing and system flexibility.
  • Lead the creation of scalable, secure, and resilient technology solutions that align with business goals and enterprise architectural standards.
  • Collaborate with teams from Product, Architecture, Operations, Market stakeholders, External Vendors, and more to support solution development and deployment.
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams—including product managers, developers, and enterprise architects—to translate business needs into effective technical solutions.
  • Partner with product teams to break down comprehensive solutions into manageable deliverables that provide immediate value to users. Help prepare product and sprint backlogs for efficient workflows.
  • Provide technical guidance for Software Development Engineers (SDEs) in squads, ensuring adherence to best practices and maintaining technical excellence. Collaborate with team members, hold the team accountable, and encourage strong results.
  • Ensure all code development conforms to architectural, quality, and security standards while maintaining thorough documentation of all shipped software.
  • Prioritize comprehensive test coverage and collaborate with DevOps and other teams to enhance automation test coverage and promote test-driven development practices.
  • Lead external vendor squads and partners, ensuring compliance with McDonald's quality and efficiency standards.
  • Oversee the deployment of new features, ensuring quality assurance, seamless environment deployment, and timely defect resolution.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to development teams, encouraging a culture of continuous improvement and innovation.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated commitment to McDonald’s core values: Serve, Inclusion, Integrity, Community, and Family.
  • 8+ years of progressive experience in technology, with a good foundation in software engineering and solution architecture for large-scale, distributed systems.
  • Validated expertise in microservices, event-driven systems, and cloud-native platforms such as, AWS or GCP
  • Deep understanding of API design, containerization technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes), and CI/CD pipelines
  • In-depth knowledge of CI/CD strategies, including rollback mechanisms and zero-downtime deployment techniques.
  • Broad proficiency in multiple programming languages and modern development frameworks.
  • 3+ years of Agile Product Management experience, including leading agile development teams and delivering iterative value.
  • Hands-on experience with Agile methodologies and DevOps practices, fostering collaboration and continuous delivery.
  • Strong capabilities in project and product planning, including backlog prioritization and roadmap development.
  • Exceptional communication and collaborator engagement skills, with the ability to influence across technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Experience in retail, restaurant, or digital technology, is a plus.
  • Confirmed ability to lead multi-functional teams, including both direct and matrixed reports.
  • Passion for demonstrating technology to enhance customer experience and drive operational excellence through innovation.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Strong background in software development and solution architecture, with hands-on experience designing and implementing scalable systems.
  • Proficiency in .NET technologies and frameworks.
  • Deep understanding of containerization technologies such as Docker and orchestration tools like Kubernetes.
  • Practical experience with event-driven architecture, including the use of message brokers and asynchronous communication patterns.
  • Expertise in performance tuning and infrastructure scaling to support high-availability, high-throughput applications.
  • Extensive experience with cloud-native development on platforms such as AWS, Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
  • Proven knowledge of API Gateways and best practices for secure, scalable API management.

Salary Range

The expected salary range for this role is $149,260- $190,310.00 per year
