This opportunity is part of the Global Technology Infrastructure & Operations team (GTIO), where our mission is to deliver modern and relevant technology that supports the way McDonald’s works. We provide best-in-class foundational technology products and services including Global Networking, Cloud, End User Computing, and IT Service Management. It’s our goal to always provide an engaging, relevant, and simple experience for our customers.
The Service Management Office (SMO) Senior Manager, Tech Platform Management - Observability reports to the Director of Observability and is responsible for ensuring our observability platforms support the availability, reliability, and scalability of our customer and store systems. Candidates need deep observability understanding, experience leading tech teams, and passion for improving observability at scale collaboratively.
This is an exciting opportunity for a skilled technology leader to chip in to crafting the evolution of infrastructure and operations offerings across the complete McDonalds landscape.
As a Sr. Manager, Tech Platform Management, you will be responsible for coordinating individuals and leading all aspects of making crucial implementation decisions for our products. Ideal candidate achieves results, communicates effectively, collaborates well, and influences team positively. The successful candidate will also be recognized for their ability to attract and develop top talent for the leadership pipeline.
Key partners include internal business areas such as Operations, Global Technology, Legal, and many others. Close partnership and active management of strategic technology vendors is essential to success.
This position provides the opportunity to build relationships with a variety of McDonald’s product owners, suppliers, and franchisees. The team works in a high-energy atmosphere with fluctuating priorities that will appeal to adaptable individuals eager to explore various technologies.
This role is based at our McDonald’s Global Headquarters in Chicago, IL.
Role & Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement observability solutions to monitor and improve the performance, reliability, and scalability of our systems
 - Perform research and stay informed about industry trends and standard methodologies associated with observability
 - Collaborate with multi-functional teams to grasp business needs and convert them into technical requirements
 - Design and architect scalable and efficient observability systems
 - Configure and maintain monitoring tools and systems to ensure accurate and timely data collection
 - Analyze data and metrics to pinpoint areas that can be improved and suggest ways to optimize them
 - Address and resolve any issues related to observability
 - Collaborate with other architects and engineers to ensure the observability solutions align with the overall technology strategy and architecture
 - Mentor and train junior team members on observability guidelines and techniques
 - Communicate effectively with collaborators to provide updates on observability initiatives and their impact on the business
 - Continuously evaluate and improve observability processes and tools to enhance efficiency and effectiveness
 - Stay informed about emerging technologies and tools in the observability space and make recommendations for their adoption
 - Take ownership of project timelines and the work you're doing, ensuring timely completion and high-quality results
 - Collaborate with external vendors and partners to leverage their expertise and tools to enhance observability capabilities
 - Participate in multi-functional projects and initiatives as a subject matter expert on observability
 - Familiarity with the following tools is required: New Relic, Datadog, Grafana, Cribl
 
Qualifications
- 5+ years of relevant professional work experience in technology related field
 - 3+ years of experience as an Engineering Manager or Product Manager eliciting/defining requirements, designing systems solutions, and managing business and technical requirements
 - Good interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills with the ability to understand business requirements to translate to both technical and non-technical audiences.
 - Experience developing solutions that provide high levels of resilience and scale
 - Experience partnering with team members in a large global matrix org structure
 - Understanding of software development principles and background, specifically around SDLC process, prioritization process, intake, backlog management and well versed in project management practices.
 - Ability to work in a fast-paced, often changing, and sometimes ambiguous environment
 - Bachelors Degree in a technical subject area is highly desired

Salary Range
The expected salary range for this role is $149,260.00 - $190,310.00 per year
