This opportunity is part of the Global Technology Infrastructure & Operations team (GTIO), where our mission is to deliver modern and relevant technology that supports the way McDonald’s works. We provide outstanding foundational technology products and services including Global Networking, Cloud, End User Computing, and IT Service Management. It’s our goal to always provide an engaging, relevant, and simple experience for our customers.
The Senior Architect – Edge Platforms t is a key member of the Edge Solution Delivery team within Global Technology Infrastructure & Operations. This role is responsible for architecting, evolving, and optimizing the Edge Computing Platform that supports McDonald’s global restaurant technology ecosystem. You will lead the design and delivery of scalable, secure, and resilient platform capabilities, ensuring alignment with enterprise architecture, security standards, and business objectives.

Accountabilities & Responsibilities
- Lead the architectural design and evolution of Edge platform capabilities, ensuring scalability, modularity, fault tolerance, and operational readiness — with a focus on maintainability, observability, and ease of support.
- Define and drive platform strategy, standards, and roadmaps in collaboration with engineering, security, and product teams.
- Architect hybrid Edge-cloud solutions integrating with GCP and Google Distributed Cloud (GDC).
- Oversee platform feature development, CI/CD pipeline architecture, and automation frameworks.
- Guide the implementation of zero-touch provisioning, disaster recovery, and high availability strategies.
- Architect solutions that are not only scalable and secure but also operable by platform and support teams, ensuring maintainability, observability, and ease of troubleshooting in production environments.
- Evaluate emerging technologies, conduct PoCs, and lead feasibility studies to inform platform decisions.
- Collaborate with hardware teams on sizing, provisioning, and performance optimization of Edge infrastructure.
- Mentor platform engineers and architects, fostering a culture of innovation, technical excellence, and continuous improvement.
- Ensure platform observability, compliance, and alignment with enterprise security standards.
- Encourage architectural consistency and collaboration among cross-functional teams.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field; or equivalent experience.
- 10+ years of experience in platform architecture, infrastructure engineering, or related fields.
- 5+ years of experience architecting and deploying Edge computing or hybrid cloud solutions.
- Deep expertise in cloud platforms (GCP, AWS), including IaaS, PaaS, and container orchestration (Kubernetes, GKE).
- Strong background in CI/CD tools (GitHub Actions, Jenkins, ArgoCD, Harness) and Infrastructure-as-Code (Terraform).
- Experience with virtualization technologies (VMware, KVM, Hyper-V) and hyperconverged infrastructure.
- Proficiency in scripting and programming languages (Python, Go, PowerShell, Bash).
- Familiarity with observability tools (Prometheus, Grafana, Jaeger, Datadog, New Relic).
- Knowledge of software-defined storage, data replication, and disaster recovery strategies.
- Strong understanding of cloud security principles and compliance frameworks.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and stakeholder management skills.
- GCP or AWS certification preferred

Salary Range
The expected salary range for this role is $152,678 - $190,847 per year
