Department Overview

We are seeking an experienced, highly versatile, and hands-on Data Engineer III to drive the development, integration, and operational execution of McDonald’s Marketer Customer Data Platform (mCDP). This is a pure individual contributor ("doer") role focused on rapid, high-quality technical execution. Acting as a SME across the CDP ecosystem, the ideal candidate will possess deep experience in CDP operations (utilizing tools like mParticle) and extensive expertise in Google Cloud Platform (GCP) infrastructure. You will be responsible for building and maintaining real-time data pipelines, configuring event streams and webhooks, and managing audience segmentations that surround and support the CDP to power critical, split-second marketing and customer engagement initiatives.

Duties

Who We Are Looking For

  • A Hands-on "Doer": An agile, high-velocity engineer who is passionate about writing code, configuring systems, and independently delivering high-quality, production-ready integrations from requirements through deployment.
  • CDP Operations Specialist: Someone who is well-versed in configuring user traits, mapping data schemas, setting up inbound/outbound integrations, and building/managing audiences in a CDP ecosystem (mParticle).
  • GCP Infrastructure Practitioner: An engineer with a strong cloud foundation who can easily design, set up, and maintain GCP-based data pipelines and supporting cloud infrastructure that feeds into and wraps around the CDP.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Direct Development: Directly implement, test, and deploy scalable real-time and batch data pipelines connecting mParticle with downstream marketing platforms (e.g., Braze) and core data warehouses.
  • CDP Integrations: Build and manage new integration patterns, establish secure webhook endpoints, configure event-forwarding rules, and orchestrate low-latency data streams into and out of mParticle.
  • Audience Management: Build, optimize, and reconcile user audiences, traits, and segment logic within the CDP, partnering with stakeholders to resolve audience count discrepancies.
  • GCP Infrastructure: Design, configure, and maintain robust GCP infrastructure (utilizing BigQuery, Pub/Sub, Cloud Run, Cloud Functions, GCS, and Terraform) that supports and surrounds mParticle operations.
  • Observability & Health: Set up monitoring, logging, and alerting systems (e.g., New Relic, OpenTelemetry) to ensure high platform uptime, data hygiene, and automated error handling across streaming pipelines.
Engineering Standards: Maintain clean, version-controlled codebases (via Git) and actively participate in design sessions, technical reviews, and Agile sprint delivery cycles

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • CDP Experience: Hands-on experience operating and developing within an enterprise Customer Data Platform (preferably mParticle, or alternatively Segment/Tealium, or a similar CDP tool), specifically with configuring data ingestion & forwarding rules, audience qualification, and activation feeds.
  • GCP Ecosystem: Solid professional experience building data pipelines and managing resources within Google Cloud Platform (GCP), specifically utilizing BigQuery, Pub/Sub, Cloud Functions, and Cloud Run.
  • Programming & Systems: Proficiency in Python and/or Java, with strong skills in writing SQL queries, manipulating JSON/AVRO payloads, and working with REST APIs
  • Event-Driven Architectures: Experience working with real-time streaming platforms (e.g., Kafka, Pub/Sub) and event-driven data flow principles.
  • DevOps Tooling: Hands-on familiarity with Git-based version control, CI/CD pipelines, and Infrastructure as Code (Terraform)
  • Agile Delivery: Experience working in fast-paced Agile/Scrum environments, with a track record of translating business requirements into technical implementations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience integrating customer data flows with omnichannel marketing tools (e.g., Braze, Meta, Google Ads, LiveRamp, TradeDesk).
  • Experience utilizing monitoring and observability frameworks (e.g., New Relic, OpenTelemetry, Grafana) to debug live streaming pipelines
  • Google Cloud Professional Data Engineer or Cloud Architect certification (or lower-level Data Engineering or Cloud Architectural Google Certs)
  • Familiarity with customer identity resolution and data privacy frameworks (e.g., GDPR, CCPA)
