Department Overview
MGO India is seeking a qualified Chartered Accountant to join as Tax Manager. The role will be responsible for managing India tax compliances, supporting tax governance, coordinating with external consultants and internal stakeholders, and ensuring timely and accurate execution of direct tax, GST, withholding tax, transfer pricing, and tax assessment related matters. The ideal candidate should bring strong hands-on tax compliance experience, Big Four consulting exposure, sound technical judgment, and the ability to operate in a fast-paced global office environment.
Duties
Direct Tax and Withholding Tax
- Manage direct tax compliances, including advance tax workings, tax return preparation support, tax audit coordination, and annual income tax return filing process.
- Review tax computations, reconciliations, schedules, and supporting documentation prepared internally or by external consultants.
- Oversee withholding tax / TDS compliance, including monthly deduction validation, challan payments, quarterly return filings, Form 16 / Form 16A support, and resolution of TDS defaults or mismatches.
- Track compliance calendars and ensure timely completion of all statutory tax filings, payments, and documentation requirements.
- Partner with finance, payroll, procurement, legal, and global tax teams to evaluate tax implications of transactions and business changes.
GST and Indirect Tax Compliance
- Manage GST compliance activities, including preparation / review of monthly and annual GST filings, reconciliations, input tax credit tracking, and GST payment workings.
- Review GST implications on vendor invoices, intercompany transactions, export of services, reverse charge transactions, and other business transactions.
- Support GST refund documentation, reconciliations, and responses to queries from authorities, consultants, auditors, and internal stakeholders.
- Monitor changes in GST law and assess their impact on MGO India processes, systems, and compliance requirements.
Transfer Pricing
- Coordinate annual transfer pricing compliance, including identification of international transactions, data collation, benchmarking support, TP documentation, and Form 3CEB filing support.
- Work with global tax teams and external advisors to ensure intercompany arrangements, cost-plus recharge models, and documentation are aligned with transfer pricing requirements.
- Support transfer pricing audits, assessments, notices, and information requests by preparing data, reconciliations, submissions, and supporting documents.
- Maintain robust documentation for intercompany transactions and support audit readiness for transfer pricing positions.
Tax Notices, Assessments and Audits
- Prepare, review, and coordinate responses to tax notices, assessments, scrutiny proceedings, audit queries, and other communications from tax authorities.
- Work closely with external consultants, internal finance teams, legal teams, and leadership to gather facts, prepare submissions, and track closure of open matters.
- Maintain a tracker for open notices, assessments, appeals, submissions, hearing dates, and action items.
- Ensure all responses are technically sound, properly documented, submitted within statutory timelines, and appropriately reviewed before filing.
Tax Governance, Controls and Stakeholder Management
- Act as the primary tax point of contact for India tax compliance matters and coordinate with external consultants for preparation, review, filing, and advisory support.
- Drive compliance discipline through tax calendars, checklists, documentation standards, review controls, and issue trackers.
- Support statutory audit, internal audit, tax audit, and global reporting requirements by providing timely and accurate tax-related information.
- Identify process improvement opportunities and support automation, standardization, and strengthening of tax compliance controls.
- Provide practical tax guidance to internal stakeholders while escalating complex or high-risk matters to leadership and global tax teams.
Qualifications
Mandatory Eligibility Criteria
- Qualified Chartered Accountant (CA) is mandatory.
- 8 to 12 years of relevant post-qualification experience in taxation.
- Minimum 4 years of experience with any Big Four consulting firm.
- Strong working experience in direct tax compliances, GST filings and compliances, and transfer pricing.
- Hands-on experience in preparing and reviewing replies to tax notices, assessments, scrutiny proceedings, and other tax authority queries
Required Skills and Capabilities
- Strong technical knowledge of Indian direct tax, GST, TDS / withholding tax, and transfer pricing regulations.
- Experience in managing tax compliances for corporate entities, preferably in a multinational / global capability center environment.
- Ability to review tax computations, filings, reconciliations, submissions, and consultant deliverables with strong attention to detail.
- Strong drafting skills for responses to notices, assessment queries, audit observations, and internal tax memos.
- Good understanding of finance, accounting, statutory audit, and internal control requirements.
- Strong stakeholder management skills with the ability to work with external consultants, global tax teams, finance teams, auditors, and business stakeholders.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet statutory deadlines, and operate independently with a high degree of ownership.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and working knowledge of ERP / accounting systems; experience with tax technology or automation initiatives will be an advantage.
Preferred Experience
- Experience working with global tax, finance, or shared services teams.
- Exposure to intercompany recharge models, cost-plus arrangements, export of services, GST refund matters, and India tax audits.
- Experience managing external advisors and reviewing consultant-prepared deliverables.
- Prior experience in a corporate tax role after Big Four consulting experience will be an advantage.
