We are looking for an HR Consultant to join our Madrid offices. The main purpose of this role is to advise and oversee, from an employment law perspective, the McDonald’s restaurants in their market: both Company-operated restaurants (McOpCo) and franchised restaurants and, when required, the corporate offices.
Your goal will be to ensure compliance with, and the correct application of, legislation and the brand’s own policies, bringing your employment law and HR expertise to support decision-making at the company’s senior levels. All of this with the aim of helping achieve the set objectives, protecting our employer brand, reducing reputational risks in the employment field and minimising any potential negative financial impact, whether through administrative or legal proceedings.
Important: this position requires availability to travel very frequently (more than 40% of the time).
What will you do day to day?
Employment law advice and regulatory compliance
- Provide employment law advice to franchisees and their advisors, to restaurants and to other areas of the Company (Operations, Finance, etc.).
- Ensure compliance with employment and Social Security legislation, minimising potential legal, financial and reputational risks.
- Carry out monitoring and audit activities to ensure the correct application of legislation and compliance with brand policies.
- Analyse and stay up to date on legislation, case law and administrative criteria in the employment and HR field, communicating changes across the whole system (franchisees and advisors, McOpCo restaurants and internal departments).
- Design strategies and proposals, based on the analysis of regulatory changes, to reduce their financial impact on the system.
Employee relations and collective bargaining
- Lead the Employee Relations area in the restaurants operated directly by the Company (McOpCo).
- Develop the strategy and provide advice on collective bargaining with the Employee Legal Representatives and the sector’s main trade unions on legally required matters (Equality Plan, harassment protocols, alignment protocols and adherence to new agreements).
- Take an active part in negotiating non-statutory agreements, as well as in their adaptation and practical implementation in McOpCo restaurants, as a member of the various monitoring committees.
- Within the franchise network, provide advice and act as a direct point of contact with employee representatives at national level to ensure successful negotiations and reach agreement.
- Build and manage trust-based relationships with employment stakeholders at national level (such as trade unions), fostering a positive negotiating climate and working relationship, and coordinating the system’s work with the different committees to achieve and maintain industrial peace.
People strategy and policies
- Implement the global and national People strategy and monitor compliance with it.
- Develop and implement cost-efficiency-focused policies and processes.
- Develop, coordinate and implement internal protocols and corporate procedures.
- Identify and mitigate potential risks associated with Human Resources policies or practices.
- Take part in strategic projects with global impact that require the involvement of the countries in the segment.
Analysis and monitoring of key data
- Manage and gather critical employment law and HR information from restaurants: absenteeism, turnover, disciplinary matters, etc.
- Analyse each restaurant’s situation, propose corrective actions and follow up on them.
- Identify and promote management best practices.
Close support to restaurants and internal management
- Provide ongoing support to the restaurants in the assigned geographical area.
- Listen to the challenges raised by restaurants, anticipate them and propose solutions.
- Keep restaurants informed of any legal and/or policy changes that may affect them.
- Optimise internal work processes.
- Work as a team with other departments and at all levels.
What are we looking for?
- Degree in Law, Labour Sciences or Labour Relations; or a degree in Business Administration, Psychology, Economics or Sociology with a Master’s in HR or in Employment Law Advisory.
- At least 4 years’ experience in a similar position.
- Solid knowledge of Employment Law and Trade Union Law.
- Advanced level of English.
- Availability to travel frequently (more than 40% of the time).
- Driving licence.
Skills we value
- Effective communication and persuasive leadership.
- Customer focus.

- Results orientation.
- Planning and organisation.
