Department Overview
The Software Engineer III role represents an experienced software engineer responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining enterprise-grade applications and services. This position works closely with Product Managers, Architects, Engineering Managers, and cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality software solutions while promoting engineering best practices.
Software Engineer III individuals are expected to be strong technical contributors who can independently drive complex initiatives, mentor junior engineers, and influence technical decisions within their teams.
Duties
Software Development
- Design, develop, test, and maintain scalable Java-based applications using Spring Boot.
- Build and enhance RESTful APIs and microservices supporting enterprise and customer-facing platforms.
- Write clean, maintainable, and high-quality code following established engineering standards.
Cloud Engineering
- Design and deploy cloud-native solutions using AWS and Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
- Implement resilient, secure, and scalable architectures leveraging managed cloud services.
- Participate in cloud modernization and migration initiatives.
CI/CD & DevOps
- Develop and maintain CI/CD pipelines to automate build, testing, deployment, and release processes.
- Improve engineering efficiency through automation and Infrastructure as Code practices.
- Support continuous delivery and operational excellence initiatives.
Architecture & Design
- Apply software design principles and design patterns to create maintainable and extensible solutions.
- Participate in architecture reviews and technical design discussions.
- Contribute to solution design decisions balancing scalability, performance, security, and cost.
Quality & Reliability
- Advocate for testing best practices, including unit, integration, and automated testing.
- Participate in code reviews and ensure adherence to engineering standards.
- Support monitoring, observability, and incident resolution activities.
Collaboration & Mentorship
- Work closely with Product, Architecture, Security, and Platform teams.
- Mentor junior engineers through code reviews, technical guidance, and knowledge sharing.
- Contribute to engineering documentation and technical knowledge repositories.
Qualifications
Required
- 6+ years of software engineering experience in enterprise-scale environments.
- Strong hands-on experience with Java and Spring Boot.
- Experience designing and implementing REST APIs and microservices architectures.
- Experience with AWS and/or Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
- Strong understanding of CI/CD practices and modern DevOps methodologies.
- Practical experience with Git-based development workflows.
- Knowledge of software design patterns and object-oriented design principles.
- Experience with containerization technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.
- Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Preferred
- Experience with Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform.
- Experience implementing observability solutions using OpenTelemetry, Grafana, New Relic, or similar tools.
- Familiarity with event-driven architectures and messaging platforms.
- Experience working within Agile and Scrum environments.
- Knowledge of security best practices for cloud-native applications.
